Broncos Run Game Buries Cardinals 30-16 in Glendale

Denver's ground attack piles up 160 rushing yards as Arizona's offense never finds a rhythm

Arizona Cardinals 16 – 30 Denver Broncos

Denver came into Glendale and just imposed their will. That's the simplest way to describe what happened Sunday afternoon at State Farm Stadium, where the Broncos methodically dismantled the Arizona Cardinals 30-16 behind a punishing ground game that churned out 160 rushing yards and kept Arizona's offense standing on the sideline watching.

The first half told the whole story. Denver opened the game with back-to-back field goal drives — eight plays, 29 yards, then eight plays, 22 yards — and while 6-0 on a pair of three-pointers doesn't exactly scream dominance, those drives were a warning sign Arizona couldn't read. The Cardinals answered each time, pulling level at 6-6 on a 14-play, 65-yard grind that ate nearly eight minutes off the clock. Arizona had the ball, Arizona had the time of possession edge at 33:18 for the game, and Arizona still lost by 14. That's how thoroughly Denver controlled the game when it mattered. Then two Broncos drives covering 65 and 62 yards — one in just two plays, one in three — blew the game open heading into halftime at 20-6. That's just football. When a team can go 65 yards in 47 seconds and 62 yards in 91 seconds, you're not going to out-possess your way back into it.

The second half was Denver putting the boot in. Arizona made it interesting with a 10-play, 68-yard drive that cut the deficit to 20-13, and for a moment State Farm Stadium had some life. But the Broncos answered immediately — six plays, 76 yards — and then iced it with a 10-play, 53-yard drive to push it to 30-13. The Cardinals' final score with the game out of reach made the final read 30-16, but this one was over well before that. Denver finished with 378 total yards to Arizona's 353, but the gap in efficiency was enormous. Arizona's 353 yards with zero turnovers and over 33 minutes of possession should have translated to more than 16 points. It didn't, and that's a coaching and execution problem that will need serious attention if the Cardinals want to stay relevant in the standings.

For fantasy football managers who rostered Denver's backfield this week, you're welcome. The Broncos' 160 rushing yards on the day were the engine of everything — they kept the chains moving, kept Arizona's offense off the field during the stretches that mattered, and created the short-field situations that made those explosive scoring drives possible. This kind of performance puts Denver firmly in the conversation for their division, and the SAM rating on this game will reflect a team playing complete, physical football. As for Arizona, the questions are real now. Zero turnovers and you still get beaten by 14 at home? The penalty situations, the red zone execution, the inability to answer Denver's explosive plays — all of it adds up to a loss that the box score makes look closer than it felt. Week 8 can't come fast enough for Cardinals fans, and for Denver, this was the kind of statement win that changes how the rest of the league thinks about them.
