Allen's Legs vs. Raiders' Leaky Red Zone: Bills Arrive in Vegas

Buffalo's 4-1 juggernaut rolls into Allegiant Stadium carrying the NFL's highest-scoring offense — and Las Vegas has the fourth-worst red zone defense to greet them

Las Vegas Raiders v Buffalo Bills

Josh Allen just put up 121 rushing yards against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football. That's the second-most in a single game across his nine-year career. The man is on an absolute tear, and now he has to travel to Las Vegas on a short week against a Raiders defense that has been getting carved up in the red zone. This is the matchup preview you need to understand heading into Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff at Allegiant Stadium.

Let's start with the headline number. Buffalo enters Week 6 averaging 32.8 points per game, tied for the best mark in the entire NFL. Head coach Joe Brady's offense has visited the red zone 21 times this season and punched in a touchdown on 15 of those trips — a 71.4% conversion rate, sixth-best in the league. Now line that up against a Las Vegas Raiders defense ranked 29th out of 32 teams in red zone efficiency, having surrendered touchdowns on 14 of 18 opponent trips inside the 20. That is a brutal mismatch on paper, and the tape doesn't lie. The Raiders went 3-0 to start 2026, but back-to-back losses to Kansas City and then an embarrassing 45-17 beatdown at the hands of the New England Patriots have the Silver and Black searching for answers. Head coach Klint Kubiak needs his defense to fix this fast, or this one gets ugly.

The injury report tells its own story on both sides. For Las Vegas, WR Jalen Nailor is working through concussion protocol after missing Week 5, DT Tonka Hemingway has been ruled out, and both Dont'e Thornton Jr. and Jack Bech remain on injured reserve. On the bright side, RB Ashton Jeanty — the Raiders' most dynamic offensive weapon — practiced fully this week and is good to go despite a lingering foot issue. Most importantly for fantasy football managers and anyone following the AFC West closely: Brock Bowers is healthy. The 23-year-old TE practiced in full Thursday after a knee concern, and with 24 receptions for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns through just three games, he is as dangerous as any tight end in football. He set the all-time rookie receptions record with 112 catches in 2024, and this season he's operating as the unquestioned centerpiece of Las Vegas's passing attack alongside QB Kirk Cousins. Buffalo's defense absolutely must account for him on every snap. For the Bills, WR DJ Moore practiced Friday in a non-contact jersey but his status remains uncertain after missing Week 5 with a shoulder injury. DT Ed Oliver, one of the premier interior disruptors in the premier league of American football, was seen back at practice and should return. WR Joshua Palmer is also working through a shoulder issue. The Bills adapted well without Moore against the Rams, leaning into a run-heavy identity — Allen had 37 team rush attempts to just 19 pass attempts in that OT thriller — but getting Moore back would open up the offense significantly.

Here's where it gets interesting. The Raiders actually lead the NFL with 10 takeaways through five weeks, tied for the most in the league. And Buffalo's offense has become shockingly turnover-prone. After two clean games to open the season, the Bills have coughed it up nine times over their last three contests, with Allen responsible for four of those turnovers. That is the one real crack in this Bills armor, and it is exactly what defensive coordinator Rob Leonard's unit needs to exploit. Kirk Cousins and the Raiders offense have Fernando Mendoza waiting in the wings, but the running game — and Jeanty specifically — needs to establish some credibility to keep the Bills' defense honest. If Las Vegas can win the turnover battle and Bowers continues his record-setting pace, there is a game here. The Bills are 4-1 against the spread this season, and four of their five games have gone over the total. Vegas has this one at Bills -4.5, with the total sitting at 53.5. That over feels like a live number given how explosive Buffalo is, even on a short week. This is the third game in Las Vegas's match preview schedule for the home stretch at Allegiant Stadium, and the crowd will be loud — but Allen has never cared much about hostile environments.

Give me Bills 34, Raiders 20. Allen finds a way to pick apart that red zone defense two or three times, Bowers has another big day in a losing effort, and Buffalo bounces back to make a statement at 5-1.
