Roma Host Crisis-Hit Fiorentina in Monday Night Serie A Clash

Giallorossi aim to bounce back as Viola battle relegation worries

SamSports · 03 May 2026 · 2 min read
AS Roma v Fiorentina

AS Roma will be looking to reignite their European qualification hopes when they welcome a crisis-hit Fiorentina side to the Stadio Olimpico on Monday evening. The Giallorossi sit 6th with 61 points, but their inconsistent form (WDWLW) has left them needing a strong finish to secure continental football next season.

Fiorentina arrive in the capital in desperate need of points, languishing in 16th place with just 37 points from 34 games. Their recent form of DDWWD shows signs of resilience, but with relegation still a mathematical possibility, every match is now a must-win affair for the Viola.

Roma's attacking threat will largely depend on Matías Soulé Malvano (SAM 85), who has contributed 6 goals and 4 assists while averaging 6.3 points per game. The Argentine winger will be crucial given the absence of Paulo Dybala and Artem Dovbyk through injury. In midfield, Bryan Cristante (SAM 90) will need to step up with star playmaker Kouadio Emmanuel Koné sidelined with a muscle injury.

Fiorentina's situation is even more dire from a personnel perspective. Their midfield engine room has been decimated, with Rolando Mandragora (SAM 91) out with a calf injury and Nicolò Fagioli suspended. Mandragora's absence is particularly damaging given his impressive 6 goals and 6.4 points per game average this season. Up front, Moise Kean (SAM 84) is also nursing a calf problem, leaving the Viola severely short of attacking options.

The defensive injury crisis continues for both sides. Roma will be without Wesley Lima and Gianluca Mancini, while Fiorentina are missing key defenders Domilson Cordeiro dos Santos and Robin Gosens. These absences could lead to an open, entertaining encounter.

Given Roma's superior squad depth and home advantage, coupled with Fiorentina's mounting injury problems, the Giallorossi should have enough quality to secure all three points. However, desperate times often inspire desperate measures, and Fiorentina's fight for survival could make this trickier than the standings suggest.

Prediction: AS Roma 2-1 Fiorentina
