Pisa vs Lecce: Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures

Bottom-placed Pisa host struggling Lecce in crucial relegation battle

Pisa v Lecce

The Arena Garibaldi - Stadio Romeo Anconetani will witness a relegation six-pointer on Friday evening as bottom-placed Pisa welcome Lecce in what could prove decisive in Serie A's survival race.

Pisa's season has been nothing short of catastrophic. Sitting dead last with just 18 points from 34 games, their form reads like a horror story with five consecutive defeats. The Nerazzurri have won only twice all season, managing a woeful goal difference of -37 that tells the story of their struggles.

Lecce arrive in slightly better spirits but hardly flying high. Despite sitting 17th with 29 points, their recent form of two draws followed by three losses suggests the pressure is mounting. With an 11-point cushion over Pisa, they know victory would virtually secure their Serie A status.

Michel Aebischer stands out as Pisa's shining light in an otherwise dim campaign. The Swiss midfielder boasts an outstanding SAM rating of 92, averaging 5.6 points per game to lead his team's statistical charts. Alongside him, defenders Samuele Angori and Antonio Aldo Caracciolo have impressed with SAM ratings of 87 and 86 respectively, though their efforts haven't translated into results.

Lecce's key weapon is Antonino Gallo, whose SAM rating of 92 matches Aebischer's excellence, but the left-back's muscle injury is a major blow. Midfield duo Lassana Coulibaly (SAM 90) and Ylber Ramadani (SAM 89) will need to control proceedings, with Coulibaly's three goals and Ramadani's defensive solidity crucial to their cause.

The injury list makes for grim reading for both sides. Pisa miss creative spark Mattéo Tramoni through muscle problems, while Lecce are without both Gallo and winger Riccardo Sottil, limiting their attacking options significantly.

Despite home advantage, Pisa's abysmal form makes them hard to back. Lecce's superior quality and desperation to secure safety should see them edge a nervy encounter that neither side can afford to lose.
