Nieciecza 3 – 2 Lechia Gdansk

Bottom-placed Nieciecza produced a stunning performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Lechia Gdansk 3-2 at home to claim three precious points in their relegation battle. Despite being dominated statistically, the hosts showed incredible resilience to end Lechia's hopes of climbing away from danger.

The match burst into life in the 21st minute when A. Putivtsev fired Nieciecza ahead, capitalizing on one of their limited chances. The hosts doubled their advantage eight minutes later through Rafał Kurzawa, whose third goal of the campaign put the relegation-threatened side in a commanding position.

Tempers flared before the break as both teams picked up yellow cards, with Kurzawa, Maciej Ambrosiewicz, Tomasz Neugebauer, and Rifet Kapič all cautioned by the referee. Lechia coach clearly wasn't happy with his side's first-half display, making three substitutions at the interval.

The visitors' tactical changes paid immediate dividends as Tomáš Bobček pulled one back just five minutes into the second half. However, Nieciecza restored their two-goal cushion through K. Zapolnik in the 57th minute, seemingly putting the result beyond doubt.

The defining moment came in the 70th minute when Lechia were awarded a penalty, presenting the perfect opportunity to mount a comeback. Step up Bobček, but the striker's effort was saved, keeping Nieciecza's advantage intact. This miss would prove pivotal as Lechia managed just one more goal through Bobček in the 90th minute, securing his brace but falling short of a dramatic equalizer.

Tactically, the match highlighted the classic battle between defensive organization and attacking quality. Lechia dominated possession (59% to 41%) and created far more chances (22 shots to 7), but Nieciecza's clinical finishing and defensive resolve made the difference. The visitors' expected goals of 3.19 compared to Nieciecza's 2.13 tells the story of missed opportunities.

From a SAM rating perspective, Lechia's top performers couldn't deliver the crucial moments. Matúš Vojtko (8.9 SAM) and Rifet Kapič (8.9 SAM) provided quality throughout the season, while striker Bobček (8.8 SAM, 14 goals) showed his class with two goals but will rue that penalty miss.

For Nieciecza, this victory breaks their relegation form of WWLLW and provides a vital four-point gap over the drop zone. Meanwhile, Lechia's fifth consecutive defeat leaves them precariously placed in 16th, just four points clear of the relegation playoff spot with time running out.
